Scrap felt=Halloween Pumpkin Heads

Looking for a Halloween idea to use up some of your scrap felt pieces? Here's a simple and fun spin on Mr Potatoe Head... Mr Pumpkin Heads. Simple to make and hours of fun to use!

Using your scrap felt peices

Cut out various shapes for eyes, mouth and noses (you could also let older kids make their own).

After assembling all of your felt face pieces, stick a velcro dot (rough side with barbs so the felt will stick to it) onto a pumpkin. You could use a real pumpkin but we chose to use a fake pumpkin so we could use it longer without it spoiling (If you have trouble with your velcro pieces sticking to the real pumpkin, you can tack it on by hammering it onto the pumpkin with a small nail).

Allow your children to attach the faces over and over again making new faces every time!

These pieces could also be used on a felt pumpkin shape on a felt board as well and this activity would be perfect to make the pieces to go along with the story Go Away Big Green Monster! Enjoy :)

A Birthday and a Thanksgiving Day Walk to Lynn Valley

Happy birthday to our sweet Aayla. She turned 4 today but we had her party yesterday.

Meadow made a cute little tea pot cake and tea cup cupcakes for the party. Aayla got a vintage tea set.

Everyone painted tea cups as the party craft...except poor Maja...boy she wanted too though :)

Today we headed to Lynn Valley for a nice Thanksgiving Day walk.

A wonderful thanksgiving day walk...now home we go to cook a turkey dinner!

A Colourful Thanksgiving Turkey

By accident today we created a cute turkey for Thanksgiving.

Sierra came home from school and wanted to use the hot plate so we melted some crayons today. To do this we used an old hot plate we purchased from Value Village. Then we place a piece of wax paper over the hot plate and had fun watching the crayons melt as you carefully rub the crayons (remove the wrapper) all over the waxed paper.

(Please becareful! Fingers can get burnt on the hotplate. Some newer plates come with temperature controls but our older one doesn't so you always have to supervise this activity!)

After the crayons are melted and your wax paper is covered set it aside to cool where it can lie flat. While waiting for it to cool cut out a big oval from construction paper and then cut out the centre from your oval.

Sierra then glued the oval on top of the melted crayon wax paper piece and then turned it over, and glued on some feathers.

Proud of her colour choices :) Might be time for another bang trim!!!

Sierra had no intertest in trying to draw the turkey head or feet so I had to :( but all together it turned out pretty cute.

A Fall walk at Tynehead Park

Today the rain held off so we headed out for a walk to enjoy a nice fall day with Grammy Sue, Sissy Meadow and Andrew.

I have walked this park many times but have never ventured down to the fish hatchery so today was the day to do it. There aren't any fish there right now but there were baby fish in the ponds. Above the ponds were layers of CD's for the musical enjoyment of the fish...no really it's to scare away the birds from dropping in and eating them :)

While looking at the baby fish there was a gentlemen who came out and fed the fish with the girls

 and then offered to take us inside and show us the hatchery. Since there are no fish in the hatchery we got to see a freezer full of different Salmon specimens.

And also got to see jars of fish eggs and baby fish samples.

After thanking the man we went down to the river to see if we could see any fish and we did. There were about 5 in total.

Then we headed out trying to find a geocache but it was in the middle of some overgrown blackberry bushes and after Sierra stepped on some prickles we had to give up on it.

So we continued on our walk. We have very few trees that change colours and loose their leaves so our forests are still so green.

 Incase you didn't notice I stop to take pictures of every mushroom which slows us down sometimes. At one point we got way behind and Aayla walked the whole way saying "Gammy" and then when we hit the boardwalk she began to run until she found her and was so happy. I think she thought they left without us.

I HEART wonderful fall walks

 Meadow and Andrew got a work out with swining the girls up and up over and over again

 

 And at the end of our walk I found a 4 and 5 leaf clover patch.

Some how the rain held off and Ian's plan to stay at home and get some painting done paid off and he painted some of the trim on the house. Little by little it's being transformed :) It's looking good babe! Soon that blue trim will be gone and replaced with a nice chocolate Brown. Bye bye Blue and grey!!!
